Week #114

It was a great week. I am saying this after a while I must admit. It was a review week, so of course it has to be great. Six months before I might have not thought about this, but I backed myself and kept pushing, day in and day out. This year has to be one where I really understand consistency and its payoff. Uncertainty cannot be avoided, but can be overcome by keeping yourself aligned and pushing towards a greater good no matter what. I am grateful then ever to be able to live such a life. What a time to be alive, and also what a time to not rest!

That’s what I can say the least and honestly without spilling the beans ;)

But I am truly blessed to worked at Docsumo, its not any random company. Its document extraction at scale. Forget the motive or core of what the company does, but the people around it, the cozy, joyful moments I have shared in it in the last 3 years are one of my closest moments of life. I truly like solving things now, earlier I thought code was everything, but now I feel solving people’s problems is and always come first.

Enough of the rant, I am now in a different zone of engineering, where I have to face client use-cases head on. Earlier, I only focused on one aspect of an API, but now I have all the options open. Random things, random use cases, weird documents (oh, that never leaves me behind does it? If i work at docsumo, then that is a expectation). I feel I am at the right place at the right time. Agents have changed the game and they are just changing the industry, quickly, but the fundamentals still hold.

This week I spent a lot of time with agents, conversing, benchmarking, reviewing, diagnosing, and a lot of grunt work just handed off to agents. I feel, some grunt work still needs to be there, to stay in the loop, but most of it can be automated with agents. Again, I have not read much this week. I will be building a few things and writing probably.

Quote of the Week

“When the past is always with you, it may as well be present; and if it is present, it will be future as well.”

― William Gibson, Neuromancer

Guess, which book I have read this week. Neuromancer. I was suprised, after reading it, I was curious, why this book is not famous in these times, well I was wrong, it is.

Its a trailer for the movie adoption of the book. I heard this book from Derek Banas, he was inspired by this book to be a software developer, a hacker kind of. I picked it up and read in almost one week. I must say it was terribly confusing, but once I got the hook, it was so good to read this. Like half of the time i am wondering, is he talking to AI or a human.

But the quote, oh yes. Oh my, what a banger, the memories if you have them, you carry it now, you might as well carry it in the future too. So beautiful. The quote is not in the book per se, but written by author, I came across while browsing the author’s work on goodreads and I was happy to see this. Very hopeful in such times. I am really in awe how he imagined the world, in 50 years from then.

Read

  1. Faster python imports with lazy imports

    1. This is cool, can gain a lot of performance by placing the imports smartly. I mean if you have internal packages and dependencies that take a lot of time, you can do the other thing while doing the dependent thing in parallel right?
    2. Really cool way to improve python projects since there is no other point of improving the time
  2. Qwen3.8 27B Addition in words

    1. This is interesting, I had run this kind of test on some earlier (mid to late 2025 experiments) to test the models. Deepseek, GPT OSS, and others to test out how good they are without its tools. And they were gross.
    2. This benchmark just proves that, without thinking and tools, they are not quite smart. They are just like rote stuff, mugged up and forgot the lines in between.

Watched

  • The paradox of efficiency, AI and science by Terence Tao

    • This is good thought provoking sentences.
    • The analogy of going on a trip but not travelling, that is the most counter-intuitive thing to say right? But that’s what is happening with AI in programming and mathematics. Since coding and maths are verifiable these two fields are churning with agents. Others are not quite testable and ready for agents yet. This makes sense right?
    • There is also a problem, that if we keep on using these models for doing all of the work, then who and what will train the next generation of scientists or mathematicians? or even developers. Nobody knows.
  • Why Software keeps breaking, the Standup 74

    • Hmm, if software is produced more, then is a good sign of software being needing more eyes right? Anybody can produce code but is the end goal of software to just produce code?
    • Yes, the point of adding more code is just wasteful, it would add more randomness and more point of failures, basically unstable code. That is not solving the software. And yet people call software is solved. Good luck to non-devs enjoy software then.
  • The state of tech industry 2026: By Gergely Orosz

    • Wow! This is so good. Changing, it has been the name of the game and the ones who understand that change is going to happen will succeed, time and time again. This time, yes its a little intense, but again, adoption is the key.

Learnt

  • Difference between vectors and tokens

    • Vectors are for representing the space of semantic meaning in the text or any form of data, whereas the token is the unit by which the Large Language Model or any Generative Model understands the data.
    • I was understanding how to create a book recommendation, not the typical one, but a more powerful one based on taste and vibe, and also from the user’s existing reading habits. And found that embedding is quite important here, embedding is basically the collection of vectors for input.
    • I will never jumble these two now, they are completely different things.

Tech News

  • Turso joins Supabase

    • This is big. I had used turso for quite a lot of experimental projects. And this merge looks like a step in some outcome.
  • Anthropic releases Haiku 5.5

    • Hmm, a good model maybe! Is Anthropic making a comeback? maybe. I will not bet on Anthropic in my life.
  • Deno is joining Cloudflare

    • Oh! this is kind of weird and interesting one. Cloudflare might be able to give some light to that “just there” project of runtime right?

That’s it from the 114th Edition of techstructive weekly. I hope you found it helpful, and relaxing. If not please drop any suggestions, feedback or discussion about certain things you want to in the comments or drop me a message on my socials.

Thank you for reading,

Until next week.

Happy Coding :)
